Answer: The apostle Paul states that Phil. 2:9-11 (NASB): “God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, (10) so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. “
This exaltation includes several things. First, Jesus sits or stands at the right hand of God, the position of chief favor. “Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.” (Rom. 8:34 NASB) From his position Jesus can intercede on behalf of his followers. “When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, (4) having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.” (Heb, 1:3,4 NASB)
Once the archangel Michael, the risen Lord is now so superior having received the divine nature (“life within itself”) from the Father. “For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself.” (John 5:26 NASB) This allows the risen Lord to become “the last Adam … a life-giving spirit [being]. (1 Cor. 15:45 NASB)
Jesus has also become a high priest after the order of Melchizadek. “Son though he was, he had to prove the meaning of obedience through all that he suffered. Then, when he had been proved the perfect Son, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who should obey him, being now recognised by God himself as High Priest ‘after the order of Melchizedek.'” (Heb.5:8-10 Phillips) As high priest it will be his responsibility to teach Israel and all mankind righteousness and bring them back to perfection. (Heb. 7:11)
Jesus also will become mediator of the New Covenant. (Heb. 12:24) In this position he will be able to protect Israel and the human family from divine justice while he leads them up the Highway of Holiness back to perfection and harmony with God.
Isaiah describes our Lord’s position, particularly in his kingdom, in Isa. 9:6,7 (NASB): “His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. (7) There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore.” He will be a wonderful teacher of righteousness, a mighty leader bringing evil to an end, provide everlasting life to Israel and all mankind and bring mankind back to peace with God and one another.
