Answer: Yes! Jesus was the first of God’s creations. That is why he is called the “only begotten” son of God.” (John 1:14,18; John 3:16,18; 1 John 4:9)
Solomon writes that Jesus was created before any of the works of creation. “The LORD possessed me [Jesus in his pre-human existence] at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. (23) From everlasting I was established, From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth. (24) When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no springs abounding with water. (25) Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills I was brought forth; (26) While He had not yet made the earth and the fields, Nor the first dust of the world. (27) When He established the heavens, I was there, When He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep, (28) When He made firm the skies above, When the springs of the deep became fixed, (29) When He set for the sea its boundary So that the water would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth; (30) Then I was beside Him, as a master workman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him.” (Prov. 8:2-30 NASB)
The apostle John confirms that Jesus was in the beginning with God the Father. He uses the Greek word “Logos” to describe our Lord’s pre-human existence. “In a beginning was the Word [Logos], and the Word [Logos] was with the God, and a god [mighty being] was the Word [Logos]. This [Logos] was in a beginning with the God. (2) (John 1:1,2 Emphatic Diaglott)
In his pre-human existence, as the Logos, was responsible as a master workman (Prov. 8:30) for the creation of everything else. “All things came into being through Him [Logos], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.” (John 1:3 NASB) The Genesis account confirms this with the creation of man. “And God said, Let us [God and Logos] make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Gen. 1:26) Paul confirms our Lord’s work with regard to the creation in 1 Cor. 8:6 (NASB): “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”
In His pre-human existence Jesus is also referred to as the archangel, Michael. (Dan. 10:13; 12:1; Jude 1:9; Rev. 12:7)
