Answer: The New Covenant will be made with Israel and Judah in Christ’s earthly kingdom. It will offer Israel and all mankind who come under it, perfection, everlasting life and earthly sonship – everything that Adam lost by disobedience.
The prophet Jeremiah describes this covenant in Jer. 31:31,33,34 (NASB): “‘Behold, days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, … (33) But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,’ declares the LORD, ‘I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. (34) They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.'” This covenant will convert Israel, Judah and all who come under it children of God.
Jesus’ blood will be applied to seal the New Covenant and thus, remove Adamic condemnation from off all mankind as well as cleanse Israel from their sins against the Law. (Matt. 26:28; Gal. 4:4,5) Israel and Judah will be under the mediator of the New Covenant, our Lord Jesus. (Heb. 12:24; Heb. 8:6) As that mediator, Jesus will protect Israel and mankind from divine justice while giving mankind an opportunity to learn righteousness and grow towards mental and moral perfection.
Under the New Covenant Christ and his church were serve as a spiritual priesthood after the order of Melchizadek. As kings and priests, they will have civil control over Israel and mankind enforcing God’s laws. Under their rulership, “They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain [kingdom], For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.” (Heb. 11:9 NASB)
The prophet Isaiah writes about the protection mankind will have under this covenant. “‘They will build houses and inhabit them; They will also plant vineyards and eat their fruit. (22) They will not build and another inhabit, They will not plant and another eat; For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, And My chosen ones will wear out the work of their hands. (23) They will not labor in vain, Or bear children for calamity; For they are the offspring of those blessed by the LORD, And their descendants with them. (24) It will also come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear. (25) The wolf and the lamb will graze together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox; and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will do no evil or harm in all My holy mountain,’ says the LORD.” (Isa. 65:21-25) The violence and oppression of today will be replaced by peace and righteousness.
This covenant will provide a highway that Israel and mankind will have an opportunity to walk up back to perfection of heart and mind, harmony with God and everlasting life. “A highway will be there, a roadway, And it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, But it will be for him who walks that way, And fools will not wander on it. (9) No lion will be there, Nor will any vicious beast go up on it; These will not be found there. But the redeemed will walk there, (10) And the ransomed of the LORD will return And come with joyful shouting to Zion, With everlasting joy upon their heads. They will find gladness and joy, And sorrow and sighing will flee away.” (Isa. 35:8-10) All of the “vicious beasts” who have oppressed Israel and mankind (Satan, fallen angels, mighty nations) will be restrained. All of the stumbling stones of violence, poverty, illness, etc. will be removed from the highway. (Isa. 62:10)
This covenant will be made with Israel and Judah. However, the Gentiles will see the blessings of the covenant and want to come under it as Isaiah expressed in Isa. 2:3,4 (NASB): “And many peoples will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.’ For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. (4) And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war.” This covenant will bring peace between God and man and peace between all mankind.
